Brian Hot Rods his JBL JRX-115 Top Cabs (Horn Driver)

Published by majac on

Here’s the original message I got from Brady www.youtube.com Hey Brian, You might remember that I mentioned some time ago, that a good upgrade for your JRX115 cabs, would be to replace the compression driver with a Selenium D210Ti. They happen to be on sale now, as they are moving to a new 2008 model. They are selling for $31 each, and they are a drop in for your JRX115 cabs. www.partsexpress.com I know your JRX115 cabs already sound good, but these will make them sound better, so I am just passing this tip along. Why? For a couple of reasons. 1) Your JRX cabs have a frequency response of 50Hz -12.5KHz +/- 3dB. The JRX115 cabs have always been known to have really good bottom end for a single 15″ cab, but a little short on the top end. Dropping these in will change that to 50Hz – 20KHz +/- 3dB, giving you a LOT better top end, with less power to get it there. 2) The Selenium D210Ti is a better, cleaner sounding compression driver than the stock JBL compression driver in the JRX series as well. The JBL higher end compression drivers are a different story, but then they cost more than your speaker cabs & definitely mine…hehe (I would love to have some though 🙂 Anyway, I’ve got two of these on their way to me now. They are a nice upgrade for my cabs as well, at only $31 a piece. I do know your JRX115 cabs sound great as is, but thought I’d pass along the tip for a nice upgrade if you are interested 🙂 I’ll be doing a vid when I get mine in. Hey, I’ve been getting a few

Thanks

carlover961 · July 22, 2011 at 5:59 am

Wow, those speakers sound a lot better with the new drivers!

jigibao · July 23, 2011 at 1:39 am

you may NEWER change driver like this as crossover is not calculated for impedance of new driver,so you change compleet configuration end sound of speaker, end possible make amp work what can result in broken amp… speaker sistem is more komplex then poping speakers in end out…

I was given a set of the 2x15s with nuntin inthem so I pull crossover out put a plate over hole now I can bi amp them. I put 2 eminent kappa 15s in each speaker along with a generic 1 1/4 bolt on lens with eminent drivers. Couldn’t be happier. I strongly recommend the bigger bolt on driver and removing crossover and use biamp. I would never settle for less. I am even doing them to my other two I bought (to make a set of 4)

hanksteelbranch · August 2, 2011 at 4:36 pm

High end sounds alot clearer. I’m getting ready to do this to a set of my JRX’s and I stumbled upon this. Serendipity.
Best price I found as of 12/2010 was $40 a pop from VIP audio.

does it matter which places the postive and negative go?

Tomii87 · August 8, 2011 at 3:10 pm

@DHood72 Yes, the MRX is a JBL PRO SERIES, those have better components and the sound is much more clear than the MRX series. Perhaps the selenium driver is better than the one in JRX, but no on the MRX. Watch the features on the JBL official site. What Im saying, is that you cant say a driver is better than another, or a woofer is beter than another because it weight’s more. Technology gets forward, and each day, drivers and woofers are made with loght weight, and more power.

DHood72 · August 9, 2011 at 12:05 am

@Drake3498 What about if I’m using them as PA mains with the matching subs? Could they handle a small outdoor event?

DHood72 · August 9, 2011 at 8:50 pm

@Tomii87 So are you recommending the MRX115 drivers?

Tomii87 · August 11, 2011 at 12:35 am

Hi men, Nice Vid. But it doesn’t matter if a driver is heavyer or not, or if a woofer has more weight than another, this doesn’t mean one is better than the other. Jbl uses neodynium on most of their components, (y think no on the jrx systems). But a jbl 400RMS woofer from a MRX115 series, weights 2kg, and it sounds great. A normal woofer of that power, will be on 5 6 or even 7 kgs. JBL eon self powered 515 450 RMS wheigts 14.9kg. it doesnt mean than one of 40kg is better.

djwiplash1 · August 11, 2011 at 2:01 am

it sounds like the stock JBL has mor Mid range and the after marked hits higher

pandamicpromo · August 12, 2011 at 1:24 am

7:18 HAHAHAHA

SuperWorty · August 14, 2011 at 4:56 pm

Igen szépen szól, még nagy hanger?n is csak a mély hiányzik bel?le!
Ez inkább magas -közép nagyot szól és szépen de a mély!
Aki ilyet akar az 1 mély nyomot is szerezzen be mellé!

Drake3498 · August 17, 2011 at 6:29 pm

JRX series are good cuz THEY DONT FKING MAKE U POOR. i hate ppl who hate JBLs cheaper brand….why would they make a cheaper version and spend LOTS of time making it good? its good enough as is for what he and most people do…basically 90% of the crowd would NOT know a MRX vs a JRX series when playing. lmfao

aaroneng1 · August 19, 2011 at 2:05 pm

what is the name of the song.
