@ohiovol63 Is building traditional today the same as it was?..well yes and no..back when, you scrounged around for a used offy manifold today it might be an edelbrock you dont have a lot of money so you scrape together what you got…thats the same..but this rat rod craze has taken on so many diff types..some would be considered traditional..but some are just pure “shock rods”..”how extreme can we make it” type vehicles…the scary part is some have no regard for safety..

This video describes my style of rodding perfectly!! My car isnt what most people consider a rod……1964 chevy impala, but I took it and jacked the back up, put some baby moons on it and blacked out the bumpers and built a custom grille, painted it myself, metallic blue enamel, its not perfect but thats good because I dont want it perfect, it has way more character than some guys generic trailer queen that looks just like every other car at the show that he didnt even lay a finger on

Aniway, I like it, and I like the fact, that rodding gets a lot cheaper now.

I am weary of the small block in almost everything. I like the old mills tarted up with some speed and running it . I had a old 47 Desoto in the shop the other day with a 331? Hemi and two fours. I was suprised how snappy it sounded . It had the sweetest sound at about 45 mph, man it drew attention. I took it for an extended test drive. I have a jinny 54 Chevy I think I will hop up some, maybe dual one bbls and a split manifold, I’m tired of stock. I

This video has alot of good tips for the homebuilder. Original hotrodding was done with the owner’s mind, not with a fat wallet. The trick was to only make it look like it cost a fortune to build. But nowadays, many have lost sight of that.

How about throwing the broke dick, oil puking small block Chevy in the shit can where it belongs, and building a Rocket Olds, or an old Ford Y Block!
How about keeping it real, instead of dressing up a turd in a tie!

Primer is cool. Mexican blankets are cool. You seen that stuff in the 50s and
60s. And if you wanna put a few minor updates here and there thats ok. For instance taking a small block chevy and making it look like a rocket olds or an old ford Y block. But it just bugs the hell out of me when I go to a big car show and see these gauty bondo buckets parked sideways, taking up two spots with the owner standing directly behind it acting like his shit dosn’t stink thinking he’s Gods gift to hot rods

I’m all for traditional hot rods but I’ve grown a bit tired of rat rods. Many of their owners say they’re traditional hot rods but I disagree. How many radically chopped and channeled rusty T coupes did you see in the 50s? If you have a really pitted out model A chopped 10 inches with a vega steering box, tube front axle, four bar, disk brakes, electric fan, and a 305 out of an 80s camero it’s not a traditional hot rod. Kudos for reviving the street rod hobby though.

I don’t know what 1C7Z3H5X is smoking…….. the “rat rod craze” is stronger than ever. What is really “old” are the fiberglass kit cars, with chrome, billet and crate motors, costing nearly $100,000. Build them yourself and drive em’ like you stole em’ !!!
