Year End Wrap-up: York
As stated by others, this is the time of year when we can take a few extra minutes of the day and sift through the pictorial rubble that has clogged up our servers here in the office, and uncover nearly forgotten tidbits that you might find tasty. My contribution to this effort comes from a mid-summer show in York, Pennsylvania: The 2009 York Reunion & Nostalgia Nationals.
Quite literally tucked into a corner was this 1967 Chevy Camaro, better known by its given name: Book Chevy City Pacesetter.
A black vinyl topped, radio delete L78 car (that’s 375hp from 396 cubes in Chevy speak), This car was ordered by Bill Book Chevrolet (located in Altoona, Pennsylvania) and driven by Greg Turchetta from 1967 through 1972 in SS/C class. At the time I walked past it, nobody was around to ask questions as to its racing prowess. There was, however, a message board stating that it was raced at Peterson Memorial Dragway (Tipton, PA, 1970-’77); Keystone Raceway Park (New Alexandria, PA, still operating, last we knew); Pittsburgh International Dragway (Bridgeville, PA, 1965-’71); York U.S. 30 Dragway (York, PA, 1961-’77); 522 Dragway (Kreamer, PA); (Several??) Maryland Dragways and (several??) East Coast Super Stock Meets. A few trophies on either side of the sign indicated that it did pick up at least a few wins along the way.
Also stated was the mileage: just 7,890.
I couldn’t find any info about 522 Dragway – anybody have anything they can share? Could it be another name for Beaver Springs Dragway, and the town is listed incorrectly?
