Wrenchin’ Wednesday: How to Save Those Run-Away Locking Tools
There’s nothing worse than losing your tool’s tool — You know, those little wrenches and keys that help tighten/loosen lock nuts and chucks. They’re easy to lose and annoying to MacGyver around if they’re missing when it comes time to change discs or attachments. Every time we unbox a new tool, we’ll wire- or zip-tie the locking tool to the power cable, which does two things:
- It ensures that you can’t lose it.
- Basically requires you to unplug the tool before handling the business end.
That later point is a big one — We don’t call grinders “deathwheels” for nothing! Anytime you’re changing discs or attachments on a rotary tool, it’s a good idea to unplug it to prevent any accidental trigger bumps from starting the tool.

Wrenchin’ Wednesday is a weekly garage-hackamajig, making wrenching great again with small tips that make working on your project easier, cheaper, and maybe even a bit faster. We’re probably not the first with any of these ideas, but you won’t be the last to know every Wednesday!
The other week, we talked about leaving a papertrail for your project!
