Week to Wicked Fox Mustang Project Update

Published by majac on

Freshly painted and on its way West for our build week!

Our Week to Wicked Fox Mustang hatchback is back from paint and we have to say that Spike’s Performance & Refinishing’s Dean Santiago knocked it clear out of the park with this paint! He had his work cut out for him thanks to the custom Kandy Brandywine House of Kolors finish we requested, not to mention adding in a Cervinis four-piece body kit, new hood, and new wing too. However, we knew we had the right man for the job and Dean made us proud with one of his famous “just like glass” finishes.

Spike’s Performance & Refinishing jumped right on our car knowing the tight deadline. After tackling a few dents and dings the new Daniel Carpenter front and rear bumpers sourced from LMR were fitted.

We’ve been on the rev limiter ever since we got the Mustang back from Dean, as we had four days to put the interior and wiring back in the car to ready it for transport to the West Coast (all our Week to Wicked builds are completed in our Santa Ana tech center). Day 1 was pretty much a wash (literally) as we had rain all day. That just left us with three days to get the interior back in, all the wiring, and miscellaneous under hood bits so that the car could start and run for the transport driver. We wrapped everything Friday morning within about 20 minutes of the Pilot transport showing up!

Our next visit Spike’s had the Cervinis four-piece body kit and new Cobra R-style hood mocked up on the car. Fit was excellent, saving us a lot of time we didn’t have!

As we ready our team for the build week coming November 18th the Mustang is currently at TMI Products, our official interior sponsor, having a few measurements taken to create new rear seat upholstery to match the front seats we’ll be installing, pulling and recovering the headliner, and a few other interior bits beforehand. You’re not going to want to miss this very special Mustang build!

House of Kolor jumped on board to help us spray the Mustang with a unique candy color that paid homage to the original Medium Cabernet (which was a solid burgundy). To do a proper candy finish you must have a base color under the candy, and House of Kolor supplied everything Spike’s would need.

Due to the sheer number of parts we had to spray (the disassembled car, plus the new hood, body kit, wing, Cobra grille insert, etc.) Spike’s enlisted the help of a local shop that had two spray booths to make quick work of our paint weekend. We ended up going six coats of Kandy Brandywine for a super dark finish that pops in the sun!
To get the “just like glass” finish Spike’s is known for, the finished paint was “cut and buffed” using high quality wet sandpaper and pro/shop level finishing products from Mothers.
Back home with just a few days before transport was to pick our Mustang up for its cross-country ride, we had a lot to do, including installing the new windshield and a used back window we sourced from a club member.
Within 20 minutes of finishing assembly and starting the car our Pilot transport driver arrived to pick our Mustang up. After juggling a few cars around our Mustang got the premium spot up front on the lower deck, meaning it was not going to be moved until it got to California.
The Performance Automatic 4R70W four-speed automatic overdrive is already in our shop and awaiting the build week!
Out back will be a Moser built axle using its M88 housing and Eaton internals, including a Detroit Truetrac differential wrapped in a set of 3.73 street gears with its optional Super Finish to reduce friction. We’ll be hammering on them Friday evening with our customary end-of-build burnout for sure!
Our interior is going to be full of the newest items from the Daniel Carpenter Reproductions catalog, like this new cup holder console top assembly.
Another sneak peak for our readers. These are the actual TMI Products Chicane sport seats we’re going to be fitting to our Mustang. We’re excited to see how they implement this look with the rear seats and door panels!
