Vintage Button, Current Message

The fate of Saab Automobile AB is still in limbo as of this writing, as GM hasn’t yet announced a sale/no sale to one of the qualified interested parties.

This waiting period got me thinking about a button that I picked up at Hershey back in 2004. Roughly three inches across and with a safety pin-style backing, it cost about $3 out of someone’s display cabinet, and it was one of the few imported car trinkets that I came across that year. I didn’t know what the phrase, “It’s about time!” referred to, until I stumbled across a circa mid-1970s Saab 99 magazine advertisement on the ’net with the same headline; I believe it was promoting the 99 as a car that was right for its era.

That message seems to ring with another resonance today, as we wait…
