Let’s face it – motorheads can’t seem to get enough of races that pit cars versus planes. Well, at least that’s what we’re led to believe by looking at the sheer volume of the things on YouTube today. The real truth is that automakers with newly minted, fast vehicles – and big marketing budgets – love to see the drama of a land-bound car racing a seemingly insurmountable aircraft.

The thing is, we just don’t see these races go down with SUVs all that often. But then again, not many are as quick as the 2014 Range Rover Sport. With the classically British Land Rover as one combatant, and the idyllic Goodwood as the venue, it seems perfectly fitting that the greatest of all British warplanes, the Spitfire, should rep for the sky-goers.
