We’d be surprised if that Car Wash that once sat on the corner of King Street West and John Street in Toronto saw any business on the day this photo was taken in January 1961. Maybe later, but certainly not with the streets still slushed up. Still, this photo from the City of Toronto Archives goes to show just how much punishment those cars we prize today were exposed to when they were still daily drivers – and how they remained viable transportation with likely just a couple of sandbags in the trunk.
