Subaru BRZ Wears an STI Wing in New Teaser
Subaru posted a picture of an STI-branded rear wing mounted to the trunk of a BRZ on Instagram today. Very few details were given other than the date June 8, 2017, which we assume is when the new product or whatever is being teased will be revealed.
The wing is made of carbon fiber and is joined to the BRZ’s trunk via two stanchions. On the end plate you can see the STI logo. Camouflaged prototypes have been caught wearing this exact wing, though it’s unclear whether it’s part of a new performance package or an all-new STI variant. At the 2015 New York auto show, Subaru debuted a BRZ STI Performance concept, which featured a similar double-stanchion rear wing among other goodies. That car previewed the BRZ tS, which stood for “tuned by STI.” A BRZ STI could be an evolution of the limited-edition tS, which got chassis and aero upgrades but no additional power. Although Subaru’s top executives told us that a forced-induction-flavor BRZ wasn’t in the works, we continue to hold out hope that a turbocharged or supercharged model will one day emerge.

It’s worth noting that June 8 coincides with the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy, an event primarily for motorcycles but one that Subaru has been involved with for some time. What do you think Subaru is teasing? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
