Somewhere USA, 1969

While we’ve been able to put locations with all the other street scenes we’ve found in the Duke University Library’s photo archives, this one has to date stumped us. Doesn’t help that we don’t see any street signs, there’s nothing but generic businesses in the shot, and the Mercury Marquis Colony Park billboard only advertises the car and not a specific dealership. We do have some clues, however. The Colony Park is a 1969 model, which means the shot was likely taken in late 1969 or early 1969. That timeframe is backed up by the 1968 Ohio license plate on the Corvair. The other three license plates in the shot, however, appear to be from some other state, so we’re going to assume that the shot was taken in that state and the Ohioan in the Corvair was just passing through. Finally, the ballpark on the left looks familiar, but we can’t quite place it. Any ideas? And what else do you see in the shot that might help us pin down the location?
