Lime Rock has been marking its 60th birthday throughout 2017, going so far as to offer free tickets to select events for fans born in 1957, the same year as the track. On Saturday, September 2, Lime Rock will host a special “60 Year Celebration Affair,” where guests will have the opportunity to mingle and dine with racing greats like David Hobbs, Brian Redman and Sam Posey, as well as comedian, car collector, vintage racer and filmmaker Adam Carolla.

Also on the guest list is Jim Haynes, the track’s former general manager and the man most directly responsible for the facility’s growth and success through the 1960s and 1970s. The evening will include a panel discussion on Lime Rock’s history, featuring Haynes, Hobbs, Redman and Posey. Expect the discussion to be lively, and the stories about the track’s early days to be suitably entertaining.

Legends of Lime rock kiosk

The Legends of Lime Rock kiosk will feature plaques commemorating those who played a key role in the track’s history.

Proceeds from the sale of event tickets will help to fund the construction of the “Legends of Lime Rock” memorial kiosk, dedicated to drivers like John Fitch, Briggs Cunningham, Paul Newman, Mark Donohue and others who helped to transform the former gravel quarry and potato field into the world-class motorsport facility it has evolved into.

Commemorative Area

The commemorative area, as designed by Sam Posey.

In addition to the kiosk, plans for the Sam Posey-designed commemorative area include a winner’s circle, benches, and gardens. Walkways will lead to a central plaza, both paved with personalized bricks purchased by fans and supporters.

The evening, part of the track’s Labor Day Historic Festival 35, includes an opening cocktail reception, dinner, music and an auction of racing-related memorabilia and experiences. Tickets are $200 each, or $1,600 for a table of eight, and just 240 seats will be available. For additional information, or to purchase tickets, visit LimeRock.com.
