SIA Flashback – Upper Middle Class “Class:” 1948 Buick Roadmaster/1948 Chrysler New Yorker
It probably wasn’t too hard for Arch Brown and Bud Juneau to round up these two top-of-the-line cars for their comparison report for SIA #167, September 1998: As Brown pointed out, backed by some convincing stats, car manufacturers in the post-war seller’s-market years flipped the script and sold far more upscale, options-loaded, high-line cars than they did low-line, price-leader cars. Two cars like the 1948 Buick Roadmaster and 1948 Chrysler Town and Country – similar in many respects beyond their positions in the market – thus are almost common and easy enough to pair up for a photo shoot and some driving impressions.
