SIA Flashback – The Battlebird Flies Again

Perhaps the most famous first-generation Thunderbirds were the Battlebirds – specially prepared monoposto versions with giant fins that campaigned at the Daytona Speed Weeks. For SIA #147, May 1995, Arch Brown caught up with one of the two Battlebirds, the Hilborn-injected example that reportedly topped 200 MPH in 1957, and got the story of its achievements and of its resurrection.
