SIA Flashback – Safety Coach: Fageol’s Innovative, Trendsetting Coach of 1927
It might not be immediately apparent what made Fageol’s Safety Coach of the 1920s so, well, safe, but as Bud Juneau so expertly explained in his story on a 1927 Fageol Safety Coach, it all comes down to Fageol’s role in the evolution of the bus from rickety homebuilt carriage to a standardized conveyance built specifically to transport multiple people and their baggage. As for the specific Fageol Safety Coach he uses to illustrate his story, it’s still in the collection of the Museum of Bus Transportation in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
