SIA Flashback – Picking Up Pups, 1900-1950
Up until the latter few decades, truck bodies – typically sourced from a local or regional shop – were never all that standardized, which led to an almost infinite array of bodies even for purposes as seemingly narrow as transporting dogs and other animals. Of course, the variety comes from an almost infinite diversity of requirements, and it seems as though Donald Wood’s extensive photo collection covered just about every variant of dogcatcher’s truck, horse ambulance, and other humane society vehicle, which he shared in SIA #167, September 1998.
