SIA Flashback – Pacing Fury! The 1965 Plymouth Sport Fury that paced the 49th Indy 500
Even without the lettering, there’s a few ways to tell a 1965 Plymouth Sport Fury Indy 500 pace car replica from a regular ol’ Sport Fury, and Richard Aguayo would have thought his pace car replica just another white 330hp 383-cu.in. V-8 Sport Fury convertible (the previous owner repainted it and, apparently, didn’t tell him about the car’s true history) had he not spotted one of those telltales. In what appears to be their final articles for Special Interest Autos, appearing in SIA #190, August 2002, Arch Brown and Bud Juneau tell the story of what made Aguayo’s Sport Fury so special.
