SIA Flashback – 1953 Allstate: Henry J in Drag?
Badge engineering is rather common today, but it was pretty much Kaiser-Frazer’s modus operandi, what with the Kaiser being essentially a de-contented Frazer, so it should have come to no surprise to anybody that K-F would badge-engineer the Henry J into another model. The company that would market that new version, however – Sears – was rather unexpected. But as Arch Brown noted in SIA #155, September 1996, Sears had dabbled in selling cars long before the Allstate came around.
