SIA Flashback – 1937 Buick Century: Century Means 100 MPH
Our Open Diff from earlier this week on how you’d save your favorite defunct marque generated a lot of interest, but one period of time for one marque – Buick in the 1930s – wasn’t mentioned. That’s because Harlow Curtice, assigned with the task of turning around a division on the brink of cancellation, did so in a convincing way, largely by introducing exciting new products like the Buick Century. In SIA #151, January 1996, Arch Brown related the story of the Century and took one for a spin, though it appears he didn’t get the chance to try out the triple-digit speed behind the model’s name.
