True, pickups were far less prevalent on the road in the Fifties, but one would expect to see at least one or two (or even a station wagon or two) in the parking lot of the Lowe’s – presumably the same hardware store chain we’re familiar with nowadays, which was founded in 1946 in North Carolina – in this November 1959 Richmond, Virginia, photo from the Library of Virginia’s Flickr stream.
