Report: Prince announces London Motor Show returning after long hiatus

The world’s auto show circuit could be about to welcome back a member to the premier ranks occupied by Geneva, Detroit, Shanghai and others, as Prince Michael of Kent has announced that the London Motor Show will be held in 2016, marking the first time the UK has hosted a major auto show since 2008.
“I am delighted to tell you all that there are firm plans to bring the British motor show back in 2016 in Battersea Park,” Prince Michael said, The Telegraph reports. “It is right that London should have a motor show that ranks alongside those of Frankfurt and Geneva.”
For those wondering, Battersea Park is actually a park, not a convention center. Its 200 acres sit on the south coast of the Thames, across the river from Chelsea. Both the park and its location should make for quite an unusual auto show relative to what we’re used to, but the park does have have buildings on site.
Details remain limited at this early stage, although The Telegraph claims a website thought to be connected with the new show is indicating that it will be held from May 5 to May 8. Assuming those would be the public dates, the London show would be decidedly shorter than most major auto shows. The 2015 Geneva Motor Show is open to the public from March 5 through March 15 for example, while the 2015 Detroit Auto Show runs from January 17 to 25.
