HISTORY ASPECTS:The GMC CCKW 353B equipped with a 1609 Type cab M37 ring mount and sheet metal cab played a crucial role in the U.S. militarys logistical operations during World War II. Known colloquially as the “Deuce and a Half” the CCKW series was designed to be a versatile and durable vehicle capable of transporting troops supplies and equipment across a variety of terrains. The M37 ring mount allowed for the installation of a .50 caliber machine gun providing additional defensive capabilities. By 1944 these trucks had become a backbone of the U.S. Armys transport fleet critical to the success of large-scale operations.On May 1st 1944 the GMC CCKW 353B was a common sight at Weymouth England as the U.S. 1st Infantry Division famously known as “The Big Red One” prepared for Operation Overlord. The trucks were essential in moving men and materiel to the embarkation points for the impending D-Day invasion.
