HISTORY ASPECTS:The GMC CCKW 353 A1 commonly known as the “Deuce and a Half” was an iconic workhorse of the U.S. military during World War II. Featuring a sheet metal closed cab the CCKW 353 A1 was designed for versatility durability and ease of maintenance. It played a crucial role in the logistics and transportation efforts of the Allied forces capable of transporting troops supplies and equipment across various terrains. By 1944 it was an essential component of the U.S. Armys motorized operations serving in nearly every theater of the war.In May 1944 as the Allies prepared for the D-Day invasion the GMC CCKW 353 A1 could be seen at Weymouth England where it was used by the U.S. 1st Infantry Division. These vehicles were critical in the build-up to Operation Overlord transporting men and materiel to embarkation points for the cross-Channel assault. The 1st Infantry Division also known as “The Big Red One” relied heavily on the CCKWs to ensure their readiness for the pivotal operation.
