HISTORY ASPECTS:The British HMS Invincible (R05) light aircraft carrier commissioned in 1980 played a pivotal role in modern naval history particularly during the Falklands War in 1982. As the lead ship of the Invincible-class aircraft carriers HMS Invincible was designed to operate with a small fleet of Sea Harrier fighter jets and anti-submarine warfare helicopters. When Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands in April 1982 HMS Invincible along with HMS Hermes was quickly deployed as part of the British task force sent to reclaim the territory.During the conflict HMS Invincible served as a crucial platform for air operations with its Sea Harriers providing air cover conducting ground attacks and engaging in dogfights with Argentine aircraft.
