Phoenix, Arizona, 1970s
As we found today’s street scene on the Duke University Library’s online photo archive, it came without a location or date, but it does have a Falcon for Art Fink (still looking for Studes and Squarebirds – any other requests?). Blowing it up to full size, we think we can read the name of the crossroad at the intersection as Indian School Road, which seems to be a somewhat common name for major thoroughfares in the Southwest. A little googling on Redburn turns up a tire and service shop still in Phoenix, and indeed Der Wienerschnitzel had/has locations in Phoenix. The only divided road that Indian School Road crosses (that we see) is Central Avenue, so we’re going to go with that intersection as the location of this shot. As for the exact date, we’ll leave that to our faithful carspotters, though we’ll note that Der Wienerschnitzel dropped the “Der” from its name in 1977. What do you see here?
