New York City, 1973
The EPA’s Documerica program of the 1970s didn’t just focus on the grand wide-open landscapes of the American West. It delved into the most urban of landscapes as well – New York City – and photographer Dan McCoy returned with plenty of compelling photos, including these two from April 1973 that we thought perfect for our carspotting series. Above, a view of the Triboro Bridge (since renamed the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge) from the southbound lanes of Harlem River Drive, and below, an example of the triple-parked do-what-you-gotta-do Manhattan spirit. What do you see here?
