A growing number of people are, thankfully, coming to appreciate the critical role that New Englanders played in the early days of hot rodding and drag racing. They’re hardcore traditionalists; the flathead and B-banger still occupy exalted places in New England’s rod heritage. On Saturday, October 18, the F.A.S.T. Northeast group of four-cylinder Ford rodders and the New England Speed Society will present its 15th annual “Gathering of the Faithful” at Plumb Corner in Rochester, Massachusetts, on state Route 105 about 12 miles northeast of New Bedford.
To quote the organizers, “This meeting is for all types of vintage speed: Fours, sixes, eights, flatheads, nailheads, Hemis, dragsters, Gassers, vintage stock cars, Sprints, Midgets and roundy-rounds. All pre-1960s rods, customs, vintage race cars and enthusiasts are welcome.” That says it all, punctuated by the photos of last year’s gathering that organizer Jack Wegman sent along.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and plenty of vendors will be on hand; October 19th is the rain date. Learn more at AutoNetNewEngland.com.
