This year, the Sportscar Vintage Racing Association will host 18 vintage racing events from coast to coast, at which an estimated 5,000 drivers will participate. Given this captive market, a tie-in to an auction company makes perfect sense, and on February 19 Motostalgia announced it will be entering into a long-term relationship with the SVRA to host sales at select vintage racing events, beginning in 2015.
The first such auction will take place during the SVRA’s Brickyard Vintage Racing Invitational, scheduled to take place from June 10-14 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Though details are still being finalized, Motostalgia is planning a gala and auction preview for Thursday, June 11, followed by the auction itself on June 12. Additional sales will likely be added to the SVRA racing calendar, though it’s not yet clear how many and at which events.
Founded in 1981, the SVRA sanctions vintage races at renowned tracks from coast to coast, including Sebring, Road America, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Mid-Ohio, Watkins Glen, Sonoma (formerly Sears Point) and Willow Springs. In 2013, the series introduced a U.S. Vintage Racing National Championship at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.
