Milwaukee, November 1962
Looming over this scene of Milwaukee’s North Broadway Street, taken in November 1962, was the approaching eastern extension of the East-West Freeway, I-794, which finally crossed the Milwaukee River in 1969, demolishing the buildings seen here. According to the description of the photo on the Milwaukee Public Library‘s online photo archive, apprehension about the highway is the reason why many of the buildings stand vacant. Yet there’s plenty of cars still in the scene for us to identify. What do you see here?
