Lost Garages: Buddner-Wagerman, Emmitsburg, Maryland
Somehow in my online wanderings recently, I came across the Emmitsburg (Maryland) Area Historical Society’s website, with plenty of older photos of the town. It is my belief that every town and city should have such an online photo archive, and the folks behind this one did a great job. I’ve yet to come across any dealerships in the archive, but there was one rather interesting garage, located at 521 West Main Street, and operated by Robert Buddner and Roy Wagerman. According to the information with the photos, the garage later became Wagerman’s Tavern, then Green’s Bakery, before becoming the residence it is today.
The interior shot is rather neat, showing what your average mechanic had to deal with back then. Anybody want to take a shot at identifying the cars? The Model T is easy to spot from its axle shape, but there’s not much to go on for the other two.
If your local historical society has a website, check it out and let us know if you find anything interesting on it.
