I’ll make a rare exception to our no-vintage-accident-photos rule today with this Los Angeles Examiner photo of the traffic backup caused by what appears to be a single-car accident on the median of the Hollwyood Freeway at Alvarado Street (from the Rosemont Avenue overpass) on February 9, 1960. It seems like the backup isn’t so much the result of rubberneckers as it is the police officers holding up traffic so the emergency responders can get to the scene. What do you see here?
