Istanbul, Turkey, 1965

Exactly why Charles Cushman planted himself at the Galata Bridge in Istanbul, Turkey, on two different occasions in 1965, he leaves no explanation. Typically, he’d shoot just one or two photographs of a scene and move on, but in April – and then again in May – he stood at that spot and shot a total of eight photographs of the pedestrian and vehicular traffic passing by. Doing so, he gives us carspotters a much better idea of the automotive landscape in mid-1960s Istanbul. What do you see here?
