Hippie riot, 1972

Charles Beesley over at motor life.blog just posted this photo titled “circa 1972 hippie riot,” and rather than comment on individualism versus authoritarianism, we thought it’d make for a good carspotting scene. However, there’s only one VW Microbus in the shot, which leads us to doubt that these are hippies at all. Regardless, what do you see here, and where do you suppose this riot took place?
