Hemmings visits the New York International Auto Show

Detroit may be The Motor City, but since 1900 it is New York, New York, where the world has come to look at the latest and greatest offerings from automakers both foreign and domestic. Over the years, the venue has changed from the Grand Central Palace on Lexington Avenue, to Kingsbridge Armory in the Bronx, to the New York Coliseum, and most recently to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center–to say nothing of the exciting related events like the display of the first Chrysler in the Commodore Hotel lobby in 1924 and the unveiling of the Corvette dream car at the Waldorf-Astoria in 1953. The New York International Auto Show always bristles with excitement and potential.

To capture some of that history in the making, Hemmings dispatched five camera-toting staffers to the 2017 show, where they viewed the industry’s latest along with some historic vehicle displays from the Vintage Automobile Museum of New Jersey, the Saratoga Automobile Museum, the New York City Police Museum and a range of aftermarket offerings for cars both new and old, including new Firebirds from the folks at Trans Am Worldwide–not to mention scads of new parts just begging to be retrofit into modified muscle and the like.

Of course, we saw the Dodge Demon, but there was lots more. Check out the gallery below to see some of the displays that caught our eye.
