Hemmings Sunday Cinema – K-car development, Paddy Hopkirk driving tips, Eat My Dust
* Chrysler was mighty proud of the K-car back in the day, and for good reason – the company had pinned all its hopes and future on the front-wheel-drive platform, and if the K-car bombed, so did the 60-something-year-old company. So while the tone of this Chrysler promotional video for the Aries and Reliant from 1980 might not sink to desperation, the urgency to it is certainly justified.
* Who better to take driving tips from than a rally driver? One might expect at first blush for rally champ Paddy Hopkirk to throw caution to the wind in this British Pathe video, but on the contrary, he preaches caution and patience behind the wheel.
* The predecessor to Ron Howard’s Grand Theft Auto, 1976′s Eat My Dust! is just about what one would expect from Howard, Roger Corman, and the late 1970s film trend of outracing bumbling lawmen.
