Hemmings Find of the Day – 1993 Jaguar XJS convertible
In case you haven’t noticed, Jaguar E-Type prices have climbed into the stratosphere in recent years, placing the model beyond the reach of many British car fans. Its successor, the Jaguar XJS, remains an attainable (though not necessary inexpensive) alternative, though even XJS prices have been climbing since 2010.
This 1993 Jaguar XJS convertible, for sale on Hemmings.com, appears to be a well-kept example with just under 60,000 miles on the odometer. It’s powered by the 4.0-liter inline six, rated at 219 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque and mated to a four-speed automatic transmission. Though not equivalent to the XJ-S-R V-12 version in performance (or cost), even this cat runs from 0-60 in under eight seconds; besides, in an XJS convertible on a sunny day, it’s the journey that matters, not arriving hastily at the destination. From the seller’s description:
This beautiful, unmolested and original Jaguar XJS Convertible is in very good original condition. It has been very well maintained and garage kept in the dry States of Arizona and California. Totally the best classic Jaguar color in British Racing Green livery with Barley leather seats, an elegant color combination with the wood grain accents to really set it off. This XJS has recently serviced by Just Jaguar, and comes with power seats with driver memory, remote entry, a full size spare, cruise control, power folding roof with a heated glass rear window, and central power locking. This XJS has a clean CarFax showing one owner, low mileage of 59,019, with no accidents or damage reported. Also comes with the its books and manuals This Jaguar would serve well as a daily driver or a great addition to your collection. In 1992, a 4.0-liter V6 convertible was added to the range. At the same time the car benefited from a revision to the rear brakes, they were now fitted with outboard rear disc brakes, instead of the more complicated inboard items on previous models. At the same time the car received more aerodynamic front and rear bumpers. Facelift (post-1991) XJS convertible; note revised rear lights. $3,000 recently spent on maintainence and OEM parts, new front tires and shock absorbers, new fuel pump and float unit. A great original collectors piece.
