Hemmings Find of the Day – 1988 ASC/McLaren Mustang
Ford introduced a topless version of the Fox-platform Mustang for the 1983 model year, but Mercury Capri buyers had no wind-in-the-hair option of their own. Enter ASC/McLaren, which began producing drop-top Capris (and special edition coupes) for the 1984 model year. ASC’s product line soon expanded to include Mustang convertibles as well, which were far more luxurious (and hence, expensive) than Ford’s own Mustang convertibles. The higher price created exclusivity, and in seven years of production, just 2,678 examples of ASC/McLaren’s “gentleman’s muscle car” were constructed. That makes this 1988 ASC/McLaren Mustang for sale on Hemmings.com a rare find, particularly with just 22,000 miles on the odometer. From the seller’s description:
Original Car, 22,000 original miles: 5.0 Liter HO Engine; 5 Speed Manual Transmission; Limited Edition; 2 Seat Roadster; Grey with Black Convertible Top; Gray Leather Interior, Excellent Condition; Great Driver; Many Years of Fun in the Sun. Classic European Style.
