While the BMW 2002 may have brought some familiarity to BMW on these shores, it was the BMW 3 Series, launched here for the 1977 model year, that really put the German automaker on the map. Clean examples of first-generation (E21) 3-Series models are getting harder to find, and while this 1982 BMW 320i, for sale on Hemmings.com, comes with a theft-related salvage title, it still appears to be worth a closer look. Its 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine, with Bosch fuel injection, was detuned to 101 horsepower to meet U.S. emission standards, but the car’s light, 2,500 pound curb weight still delivered nimble handling. The M10-variant four-cylinder was known to be fuel-efficient and durable, too, making this a thrifty (and likely reliable) choice for a weekend driver. From the seller’s description:
