Hemmings Find of the Day – 1979 Ford Ranchero 500
Though gone from the market today, it wasn’t too long ago that car-based pickups were a popular option from both General Motors and Ford. The Chevrolet El Camino is arguably better known today, but it was the Ford Ranchero that hit the market first, debuting in 1957 (two years before the El Camino). Ford kept its ute in production for 23 years, which makes this 1979 Ford Ranchero 500, for sale on Hemmings.com, an example of the final model year. Garaged since new, the Ranchero is said to be all original, and even comes with a period-correct cap, which can be quickly removed at the new owner’s discretion. If there’s a down side to this particular truck-ette, it’s that the original owner neglected to check the box next to “Air Conditioning” on the option sheet, which may limit the Ford’s geographic appeal. From the seller’s description:
This 1979 Ford Ranchero 500 is a one owner car. It has a 302 Motor and has always been garaged since day one. The bed is very clean and has no scratches. It comes with the cab but can be easily removed. There is no rust on this car and every thing is original. This ranchero was bought with no air conditioning. It has 123000 miles.
