Hemmings Find of the Day – 1979 Dodge Li’l Red Express Truck
When Dodge introduced the Li’l Red Express Truck in 1978, no one really understood the concept of a “muscle pickup truck.” What enthusiasts soon figured out, however, is that trucks weren’t saddled with the same emission control regulations as cars, which ultimately made Dodge’s Little-Red-Wagon for adults faster through the quarter-mile than the 1978 Chevrolet Corvette. For 1979, Dodge updated the truck’s styling, detuned the engine with a milder camshaft and added twin catalytic converts, but that didn’t stop buyers from snapping up all the special-edition trucks that Dodge built. Even in (somewhat) kinder, gentler tune, this 1979 Dodge Li’l Red Express Truck for sale on Hemmings.com probably spent the bulk of its life showing taillamps to drivers that didn’t know what they were lining up against. This particular example has racked up a few miles in the past 34 years, and it isn’t exactly all original, but the truck appears to be in good overall condition. From the seller’s description:
Vehicle has only had one owner. Very well maintained, stored winters, undercoated often. Mostly original paint (few touch-ups). Wheels are not original. Original 360 V-8 with chrome accents. Chrome side-steps and exhaust tips, wood on inside and outside of box, and door decals have all been replaced to original specs. My dad (the owner) is, unfortunately, no longer able to drive and this baby needs a good home.
