Hemmings Find of the Day – 1972 Nissan Skyline GL 1800

Alaska is a land of harsh truths, but also big rewards, so it’s only suitable that a car like this 1972 Nissan Skyline GL 1800 four-door sedan for sale on Hemmings.com currently resides there. The Skyline name certainly carries a lot of weight and value to JDM enthusiasts, and this one in particular looks clean, complete, and well cared for. On the other hand, it needs some work on the electrical system, and the seller has outlined the additional costs that will come with shipping it to the contiguous United States. From the seller’s description:

Shipped directly to Anchorage, AK from Yokohama City, Japan in Spring of 2012 by a military family. The former owner, a soldier, had lived in Japan for awhile and really embraced the culture. He loved this car and did NOT want to sell her, but because of an illness with a family member who needed money for a special medical treatment, he sold her to me recently. I bought her to sell her. Please note that to get a car like this into the United States properly takes a lot of money, paperwork and patience. A person has to be quite committed to make it happen. She is titled and registered in Anchorage, Alaska and legal everywhere in the United States, every state.
Here’s the G18 four-cylinder, the most powerful of three offered with a factory rated 105 HP. This Skyline runs upgraded twin SU/Hitachi carbs in place of its original, single unit and is now likely to match the L20-powered 2000GT 120 HP.

– This is a racing tuned version of the 4 cylinder engine designed by Prince Motors, Ltd.
– She is registered and titled here in Alaska
– In very good condition – mechanical / body / interior
– There is the smallest amount of rust at the bottom of the doors on the passenger side and drivers side. However, there is no rust at all in the door frame, and absolutely none on the undercarriage of the car. That is actually astounding. No rust.
– There is some electrical issue because the headlights, brake lights, blinkers are not working. I don’t know anyone in Anchorage qualified to work on this car and I am not going to attempt to fix it. That will be up to the new owner.
A thick clear notebook full of the original documents, receipts and other docs that show every oil change, every trip to the mechanic over the last 44 years, all in Japanese, comes with the car. I’ve included a few photos to give you an idea. It’s a lot of papers and documents.
