Hemmings Find of the Day – 1972 Honda 600 Coupe
By 1972, Americans knew Honda as a motorcycle manufacturer, but few outside of California knew the Japanese brand built automobiles, too. Blame it on a limited dealer network and a product mix that included just diminutive commuter cars powered by air-cooled, two-cylinder 600-cc engines rated at a humble 36 horsepower. This 1972 Honda 600 Coupe, for sale on Hemmings.com, was half of Honda’s American product mix that year, with its other offering being a two-door sedan variant that rode on the same 78.8-inch wheelbase. As described, this restored two-owner example shows a claimed 45,000 miles, including a mere 20 enjoyed since a complete rebuild. Though Honda imported 20,500 cars in 1972, their low price and tinworm-prone bodies made them disposable transportation, meaning that survivors are guaranteed to appeal to Japanese car collectors. From the seller’s description:
1972 HONDA AZ600 Coupe, all original, second owner, own a piece of Honda history, 45k miles, less than 20 miles since complete rebuild, brakes, motor, chrome, tires, and more.
