Hemmings Find of the Day – 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS 454

A while back we ran a piece on the 1970 Chevrolet Monte Carlo sale brochure, and it generated a surprising amount of discussion. Much of it was centered on the highest-performance variant, the Monte Carlo SS which, in 1970, came equipped with a 454-cu.in. V-8 that produced 360 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. If you missed your chance to own one back in the day, or if you wish you had another, this 1970 Monte Carlo SS 454, for sale on Hemmings.com, may be the car you’ve been waiting for. Said to be a numbers-matching, driver-quality car with just over 54,000 miles on it, the Monte Carlo was restored in 1993 and again in 2011, and reportedly has the build sheet documentation proving it’s a genuine SS and not a clone. Though not flawless (the air conditioning isn’t functional, both the paint and chrome have amassed a few scratches and the original air shocks have been replaced), it appears to be a clean weekend driver that would do well on the local show circuit. Very good condition car. Purchased from Bob McDorman collection in 2010 and extensive restoration completed in 2011. The car is not perfect – there are a few scratches in the paint and the ac does not currently work. Other blemishes include a few spots on chrome and dashboard. The car runs strong and it rides well. The car has 54,105 original miles. The car is a numbers matching original ss – the build sheet shows the year and Z20 option that was included in the car. The only missing item is air shocks which were removed in the 2011 restoration. There have been two restorations done to this car – one in 1993 and one in 2011. In 1993 the engine was removed and blueprinted/balanced. The transmission was overhauled and work done on various mechanical systems. The receipts are all intact. In 2011 the restoration included removal of the body and blasting/coating the frame, floor boards replaced, new exhaust, new brakes, and the body was stripped, panels replaced, and painted.
