Hemmings Find of the Day – 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28
Not every car that raced in the SCCA’s Trans-Am series was entered by a manufacturer, despite the lion’s share of Trans-Am coverage and historical articles focusing on the manufacturers’ involvement in the series in the late 1960s. Take, for instance, this privateer 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 for sale on Hemmings.com, documented not only as a real Z/28, but also as a real Trans-Am veteran. Nowadays, it remains in race trim, ready for battle on the vintage racing circuit. From the seller’s description:
Documented, 1967, Z28, Trans Am Camaro. Real 4L car, Ordered deep water blue, Radio and heater delete. Original Vin plate is on fire wall and markings under windshield cowl. This car was built in 1967 by Dick Debiasse/Automotive eng. research in Madison new jersey. Original owner was Jimmy Young sponsored by Huffman Chevrolet. Cars first race was at Marlboro trans Am race. Driver Lake Underwood also drove this car at the Paul Revere Daytona race July of 67. Second owner Deen Alles of New Jersey raced Tran AM event at Lime Rock and others. Car has been documented by Dick Debiasse in letter form in 1991. This car retains Original roll cage and and original SCCA stamp. Car still has original 12 bolt rear and a drive shaft loop with Dicks name in weld. Also this car has Original seat brackets and sway bars. Car has always been stored inside and never damaged. Camaro presently has a 310 cubic inch engine, cross ram intake with original air box putting out 550 HP. Car currently runs with SVRA and other venues. Cross Ram was purchased in 1968 and confirmed Dean Alles, furthermore this is one of the first Trans AM cars to run with a full roll cage with fuel fill through the trunk original to car.
