Hemmings Find of the Day – 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado

Published by Mike on

It might not be in show-winning condition, but this 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado for sale on Hemmings.com looks to be a good starting point for anybody interested in GM’s first foray into front-wheel drive. What needs fixed or replaced here all appear to be items that wouldn’t take too much time and effort to locate, and (big selling point on cars in the Northeast) there appear to be no major rust issues to address. From the seller’s description:

66K original miles, 425 C.I.D. /385 HP, front wheel drive, power brakes, steering, windows, antenna, factory AC complete/non operational. Good original condition.

Mechanically the car is in good condition, drives and sounds great. I believe it is the original 425 engine and original 66K miles. I also believe I am the 3rd owner but cannot verify. I have all the records for repairs/tune-ups, while in my ownership. In the last 10K, repairs include a new radiator, water pump, voltage regulator, master cylinder, shocks, muffler, rebuilt alternator and backing plates.

Interior of car is in fair condition. Carpet needs replacing, a rear side panel near back windshield needs replacing and the headliner trim has paint flaking. Power windows, power steering, power antennae all work fine. The am radio, speakers, dash clock and air conditioning are not working. The heat/defrost controls work but peculiar to an old car. There is a taught wire beneath the steering wheel that is pulled to regulate the heat. There is some rust in the trunk.

Exterior of car is in excellent condition. It had been repainted the original color at some point prior to my purchase. There are a few chips (under 1/8″ in diameter) that have rusted, chrome is in good condition w/ some pitting, rust flecks on front grill/bumper, one minor dent on back bumper.
