Hemmings Find of the Day – 1960 Imperial Crown
Always look in a car’s trunk when you go to buy it. Sure, it’s not the glitziest or most glamorous part of a car – it doesn’t (or, at least, it’s not supposed to) have all the greasy bits that make the car go vroom, nor can you sit in it, nor can you really do much with it other than stow stuff in it – but it’s what sellers leave back there that begin to tell the car’s whole story. Take, for instance, this 1960 Imperial Crown four-door hardtop for sale on Hemmings.com, which needs some TLC, especially inside, and has a relatively clean trunk with a circa-1980s snow tire as the spare. From the seller’s description:
This is a two owner car that has been in storage since the mid eighties. 413c.i.with pushbutton auto trans. It has 32,000 miles and is absolutely complete and original with every original part intact. The car runs but I would recommend a mechanical recommisioning. All chrome and stainless are good with the front bumper having some surface rust. The interior is decent with perfect vinyl. The fabric on the seats and door panels need attention and the fabric is available. The headliner is damaged but is available aftermarket. The body is straight with solid floor pans. There is some rust repair in the rear quarters. Rocker panels and door bottoms appear solid. All the glass is flawless and the rubber is near new. The original keys and a perfect owners manual are included.
