Hemmings Find of the Day – 1960 Henney Kilowatt
The brochures and advertisements for the Renault Dauphine-based Henney Kilowatt seemed to stress more than anything that it was a car that would last just about forever with minimal maintenance required, and while that’s certainly not the case with any mechanical device, let alone an automobile, this 1960 Henney Kilowatt for sale on Hemmings.com apparently only needed new batteries – and not a laborious drivetrain restoration – to get rolling again after a decades-long slumber. From the seller’s description:
Prototype electric car built in the late fifties. Only a few hundred made, less than four or five are still around. This car was gently refurbished in the late eighties, and has been sitting in out barn for the last twenty years, save a few trips down to the ice cream parlor. All new batteries ($1400.00), holds a charge, drives quiet (electric). Novelty, collector, show piece, museum, or daily driver. Car is in great shape aside from a few scratches on the paint.
