Are more car owners forgoing paint on their vehicles nowadays for a reason? Is paint that prohibitively expensive? Or are they just less concerned with looks as they are with how the car drives? We ask because this 1959 Cadillac de Ville for sale on Hemmings.com apparently needs nothing but a few (dozen) passes with a DeVilbiss and a new interior. From the seller’s description:

was in small garage fire 2 years ago, but only the paint was damaged! Car needed paint anyway. Strong original 390 V-8, 112k miles, no smoke, recent rebuilt transmission, just went on 1,100 mile to Branson, MO, and back, so mechanically is 100%. Only both front fenders have small rust, everything else and underside rock solid. New radials, new stainless expensive dual exhaust, new brakes. All lights, power windows, 6 way power seat all works, factory complete air conditioning. Good looking trunk mats and jack, etc. All chrome and stainless etc., excellent front and rear seat dry rotted, but dash and door panels are excellent!
