Hemmings Find of the Day – 1955 Buick Special
Some people feel the need to name their cars. The only names I assign to my cars tend to be four letters long and bestowed while underneath them. This 1955 Buick Special for sale on Hemmings.com, on the other hand, has a much more pleasant name – Miss Molly – that conjures up laid-back rides through the countryside, a task for which the Buick appears to be well suited. From the seller’s description:
Miss Molly is a 4 door sedan that’s been painted 2 tone grey and a red/orange. The colors are actual Buick colors, but from 1956. Altho’ she is NOT a frame off restoration, everything that she needed to make her her old self has been done. She’s had her rusted fribt fkiir replaced and brand new black carpfeting installed. Her headliner and sun visors were replaced. The upholstery could be original, but is in very good condition with the exception of one small tear on the passenger side of the front bench. The largest pieces of chrome (ie…the front and rear bumpers, etc) have been rechromed. The front and back windshields and the 2 front, large roll-down windows were replaced.
Her windshield wiper motor was replaced with an electric one and her generator with an alternator. She has A/C and front shoulder belts.
Her engine, a nailhead V-8, is the original and has about 77,000 miles on the odometer. She had her carburetor rebuilt. The gas tank was replaced. Shocks were redone. She sports steel-belted radial wide whitewall tires. She does not have power steering or brakes. She runs beautifully and is great fun to drive. She’s appeared in movies, a glamour photo shoot and carried many a bride.
