Hemmings Find of the Day – 1947 Mercury M-series pickup
Project truck? Farm truck? General around-town beater? Whatever the fate of this 1947 Mercury M-series 1/2-ton pickup for sale on Hemmings.com, whoever buys it will at least find a rust-free and apparently driveable example, thanks to its current owner keeping it off the road and in hibernation for the last 40-plus years. From the seller’s description:
In 1967 I started working on this with good friend from school, this was taken off the road in mid 60s due to motor issues.was taken apart and repainted in mid 70s and a 110 HP 53 flat head installed. was never reassembled till last July .has a lot of scratches on body from being stored all apart and out side. new aftermarket box was bought for it in mid 70s, so the fenders dont match the original running boards, I had to cut the boards to make fit.,still have the pieces I cut off.. I installed set of used radials on the original 16 in 5 stud rims all new brake shoes, master cylinder and wheel cylinder kits.the motor has a struck no 1 valve..so it knocks, I tryed driving it loosen it up,after 1 tank of gas I parked it in its own temp tarp garage..I power polished it too., installed new 12 volt lights and battery., rechromed front bumper , still has the 6 volt generator.new radiator a,new leftover 1950s signal light kit..new box floor,,did not use original gas tank under the seat, it leaks around the output..so used a mercury outboard tank in the box..this truck has no rust,,drives great, the 3 spd trans and differential have never been removed from this..I do not have a decent shop to dissasemble the motor in,so decided to sell after all this time of trying to get it drivable.. One piece of the grill is missing, but a friend has one for me
