Not every car can remain original forever. Engines and other mechanicals wear out or break, paint gets rubbed thin, the metal underneath rusts out. That’s why we restore and refurbish cars, so we can continue to enjoy them and avoid sending them to the scrapyard. Take, for instance, this 1947 Frazer Manhattan for sale on Hemmings.com, a car that remains largely original inside and that still has its original drivetrain, but has required some exterior cosmetic work and a rebuild of its 226-cu.in. straight-six engine. From the seller’s description:

only 32,600 original miles, extremely solid car with all original structural component, the exterior body has been completely redone in 2013 and both bumper and grille have been re-plated, the interior upholstery seems to be completely original and still in very good condition. This car was stored for many years in a barn and when it was taken out the engine was slightly stuck. After getting it to run, it was burning oil; so after a while, it was completely disassembled and professionally rebuilt. That was in 2013, and it has run about 1,000 miles since; all the rest of the mechanicals were also checked, and all necessary repairs were done to have it running like it should, and it does, smooth, quiet and easy to drive around. This is an excellent driver that could take you wherever.
